THE FUTURE: AN INSIDE LOOK TO THE KNOWN AND THE UNKNOWN.

I have gotten the typical “future” questions a lot lately. People ask, “What are your plans after graduation?”, “Do you want to stay in Colorado?”, “Do you have a full-time position lined up yet?”, etc. Each time I answer thoughtfully, honestly, and optimistically. After responding I find myself secretly hoping the next time I get asked a question about my future I will be able to answer with the utmost confidence and pride that I do have a plan. But for now, all I can say is I am not sure where life will take me after graduation and have no idea what my plan is, but I am extremely confident that I know what I want them to be.

I am a dreamer, a go-getter, an unstoppable force once I put my mind to something, and I have indeed put my mind to being the most successful person I can be. Sports have always been a major part of my life. They taught me important life lessons, how to be a leader and a good team-mate, brought me my closest friends, and shaped who I am today. Because of the large role sports have played, are playing, and will continue to play in my life, I plan to integrate sports and entertainment into my career. Through marketing, analytics, and writing, I want to be the person to tell compelling, emotional, and life-changing stories to the rest of the world. I want to provide them with sports and entertainment that gives them the same feeling it gives me. Where this may occur, or for whom? I have not one single clue, but I know wherever I do end up in the near or far future, I want to bring joy to people through sports and entertainment analytics and marketing.

In life, being able to write is a gift. It is a skill that is often overlooked, especially in business. When it comes to my career and my larger-than-life goals, I anticipate writing very frequently. I hope to have the responsibility of writing proposals, briefs, whole business plans, and everything in between. I also anticipate myself writing far too many emails on a daily basis, especially in this technology era. No matter the size of the writing task, or the importance, I believe curating a creative, thoughtful, and overall well-written piece of writing is crucial to my success. I take pride in the work I create and I want my peers to respect me and the work I create, and that begins with a strong writing foundation.

This final writing class, a capstone of my work here at the University of Denver, is the bridge between what I have learned in all my writing classes and my future as a businesswoman. As I begin to carefully and proudly create this writing portfolio, I wonder how it will come in handy later down the road. I am not sure how it will, but I do know that it will always be a place where I can come back to and remember my path, my memories, my progress as a writer and as a person, and I will always be able to utilize it as a showcase of the work I am capable of to possible clients, bosses, and peers.

Hi Allison, thank you for your first entry! I loved how you waved in personal details about your strengths as a student, a professional and an athlete into the blog post. Your characteristics shine through your writing voice. Lastly, I loved this note, "This final writing class, a capstone of my work here at the University of Denver, is the bridge between what I have learned in all my writing classes and my future as a businesswoman." I agree that this blog is a avenue to creatively transition from the role of the student to that of a professional.
